Social Sabbatical & Volunteerism
ASEAN Foundation - SAP Partnership
The ASEAN Foundation and SAP has formed a strategic partnership to further positive social impact in the ASEAN region. This joint effort focuses on areas of Education, Volunteerism, and Entrepreneurship. The collaboration will engage youths and social entrepreneurs to contribute to ASEAN’s vision of an inclusive people-centred and people-oriented community. The Memorandum of Understanding between the two organisations is a part of SAP’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy. The policy aims (i) to equip youths with the skills they need to tackle society’s problems and thrive in the digital economy and (ii) to build the capacity of innovative social enterprises that put young people on the path to successful careers and build a skilled workforce for the IT sector with training and workforce development programmes. Hence, this agreement will focus on driving digital literacy to support sustainable growth for the communities that the programmes aim to benefit. This newly formed strategic partnership has been in place for less than a year but has seen some significant positive impact across the ASEAN community.
Entrepreneurship - Social Sabbatical
The SAP Social Sabbatical programme is a collaborative programme between ASEAN Foundation and SAP, falling under the area of Entrepreneurship and the final initiative put forward as part of this partnership. This programme aims to build the capacity of innovative social enterprises across ASEAN countries. In this endeavor, SAP assigns high performing employees from various offices across America, Europe, and Asia to support social impact intermediaries in the region through a series of mentoring and pro-bono consulting sessions up to one month. SAP will assist these social enterprises to solve operational challenges and help to develop business plans in an effort to achieve sustainable growth. This helps these organisations bring further positive impact to the local communities in the long-term. In 2017, four organisations each in Vietnam and Indonesia and three in Myanmar benefited from this initiative. Over 50 SAP employees were involved in this programme accounting for 6,750 number of volunteering hours.
Volunteerism - YVIC
In the area of Volunteerism, SAP and ASEAN Foundation collaborates with United Nations Volunteers (UNV) to launch the Youth Volunteering Innovation Challenge (YVIC) across ASEAN states. Under the theme “Impact ASEAN,” the initiative aims to support young volunteers throughout the ASEAN countries in their journey to catalyze youth-led innovation for social impact and sustainable development. In this endeavor, the YVIC trains and equips local social enterprises with relevant entrepreneurship knowledge and skills through locally held national workshops. These workshops will hold competitions in the respective home countries and later participate in the regional mentorship orientation in Bangkok, Thailand. Financial and mentorship support are main features of this initiative where the top three winning teams are awarded StartUp grants and matched with a mentor for the duration of one month to support them to protoype their ideas. SAP employees will be volunteering their time as mentors to share their skills and experiences to provide guidance and support to these social enterprises to refine their ideas and scale up their Impact Projects. Throughout the challenge, participants are encouraged to vlog their experience once they begin their journey with their respective mentors. Three finalists - Ecofun (Indonesia), Nino Nina Co (Philippines) and Tune Map (Indonesia) - were awarded mentorship and financial support for their projects in 2017.
